45 inches.

No, not our watermelon.  It's our trombos that are 45 inches.  And they're getting girthier every day!

Damn the critter!

The first potatoes of the year, and boy were they tasty! German Butter we believe.
First potatoes of the year
Out first blue hubbard has been completely gorged by some critter! The entire insides have been removed. They had just started on the second one, but luckily we picked it just in time! They also got one of our butter cup squash.
Can you believe the nerve?

The Weed Dragon

Simple, attaches to your standard 20lb propane tank.  Found on amazon.ca or for more fun, try the commercial one (there are some priceless reviews such as "Holy Crap This Is Awesome Dec 3 2008"!!)

The weed dragon

And the result moments later ... The heat simply kills the morning glory!

Giant Atlantic Dill update from Crescent Beach

A delayed update from the pumpkin patch ... all 3 plants are doing really well, no mildew on the leaves which is a big plus ... so it is looking like the milk treatment done last weekend helped. (or at least did not harm)

I have included a beer bottle in the picture for reference to size, measurements will be taken on Tuesday August 19th when I have some string and a tape measure.

Measurements are done in two ways, first is the circumference around the widest part of the pumpkin parallel to the ground, and the second is the over the top OTT method.

Pumpkin plant #2, this one is the most orange, but slightly strange shape.
Measurements: c =58"
Estimated Weight: 62lbs
The smallest of the three, on the largest plant #1 ... the best shape, will surely be the largest of the three pumpkins.
Measurements: c = 54"
Estimated Weight: 51lbs
Pumpkin plant #3, the first pumpkin, and currently the largest.
Measurements: c = 61"
Estimated Weight: 70lbs

Aug 17th stromboner blues fest

Here are a couple pictures of our shlongs, including one curvy one we ate tonight. I think strombo chips are going to be the new kale chips. Next big thing. Maybe strombos are the musical fruit, or at least Corie seems to think so. Our Mini Farmer also likes our Mini peppers!

Ed and Clare won the prize for first trombo harvested, ba da da da na, even though we cheated and planted ours first, ba da da da na, and now all our strombos are being eaten by pests, ba da da da na, we've got the stromboncino blues!

Shlong time no see!

Stromboncino 3&4 have nearly made it to the top of the spruce tree.

Dinner of roasted veggies (potatoes, beets, carrots and onions) plus chard with black beans.

We ate 20 different types of veggies from our garden that night!

Cute stuff gold

No shlongs worth mentioning, but some peppers!

Graham street trombos are a sad looking bunch. Luckily other things are doing better, like my peppers and tomatoes. A few varieties of beans too - broad of course, purple bush, dragon tongue, and some runner beans, or maybe some other kind that I forgot to label!

The cobra ...

The first Tromboncino has been harvested ... We call it the Cobra

A shlong way to go

Not much progress at Graham, I think I forgot to water Hugh G, and half of his leaves and fruit went yellow :(

Little guys have grown, but very slowly.

Nice little harvest of potatoes, toms, green onions, turnips, beans, peas, cauliflower and a hot pepper.
